How It Works

Download and open the app. As you read the book, point your device at each page for an interactive experience with the characters and math problems.

"Jordan and Jackie Make MATH Fun" is a math-themed story about two kids who open a lemonade stand to raise money to repair their neighborhood basketball hoop.

Book Features:

  1. The story features two children applying math to their everyday lives.

  2. The high-quality board book is resilient to rough play by young children.

  3. Math problems include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  4. The two main characters decide to use their math skills to solve a community problem.

  5. The book can be read as a standalone story without the app.

STORIES CAPTURE OUR IMAGINATION AND ENGAGE OUR CURIOSITY

"There should be no such thing as
boring mathematics."

Edsger Dijkstra

Augmented Reality (AR) allows for dynamic, engaging, and interactive experiences.

App features:

  1. The AR turns each page of the book into an interactive experience with touch-activated animations and audio affects.

  2. There are 5 interactive math problems to solve in the app as the story unfolds.

  3. The app allows the reader to make multiple choices for the characters throughout the story.

  4. The interactive math problems are modified every time the book is read with the app,  so it's never the same experience twice.

  5. The app can only be used with the physical book.

AUGMENTED REALITY IS CHANGING THE WAY WE USE TECHNOLOGY

Sample Pages

You can demo the interactive experience by downloading the free app and pointing the device at the below sample pages.

Representation in educational curricula can provide validation and support, especially for youth of marginalized groups. We want kids to see characters doing math who look like them and the communities they are from. We also want non-traditional learners to be included in the STEM revolution.

Inclusive Features:

  1. The two main characters of the book, Jordan and Jackie, have 3D avatars seen in the app as the story is read.

  2. The skin tone, hair color, hair style, and outfit of these avatars in the app can be modified by the reader.

  3. The gender representation of Jordan and Jackie can be changed.

  4. One or both characters can be shown wearing glasses or in a wheelchair.

  5. Tactile "hands on" learners can stay engaged through interactive play.

WE ARE LESS WHEN WE DON'T INCLUDE EVERYONE

I’ve always been interested in using mathematics to make the world a better.

Our Story

Math Storybook is the first product created by I-Squared Learning Solutions. Our story began in 2022 when an Engineering professor and Computer Science student were discussing ideas on how to improve math literacy for under-resourced communities. At a young age, students in these communities either give up on math because of it's too challenging, or lose interest because it doesn't seem relevant to their lives. Even more, the students who have interest may not learn just by repetitive problem solving using worksheets and textbooks..

We wanted to find a way to engage students and MAKE MATH FUN.

We decided to combine our skills and passion to create a math education tools that is both Interactive and Inclusive, and I-Squared Learning Solutions was born. We target young learners because a good foundation and early interest in Math can set the stage for future years.

to make the world better."
